Depending on the product, KOMPAN ropes use ultraviolet-stabilised polyester (PES) strands with internal steel-cable reinforcement. Selected current COROCORD™ ropes use polyester yarn containing more than 95% post-consumer recycled material. Stainless-steel connectors, aluminium components and hot-dip galvanised steel posts are incorporated where required by the individual system. These materials are described according to their specific technical role rather than applying one composition to every rope structure.

KOMPAN confirms that its Organic Robinia products are manufactured from Robinia wood sourced from sustainable European sources, with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification available on request. Depending on the product, Robinia can be combined with stainless steel, galvanised steel, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), ropes, polyethylene (PE) slides and other engineered components. Malta Design treats these as complementary materials selected according to the design and technical requirements of each structure.

Materials for Professional Outdoor Play Equipment

Depending on the product, equipment can incorporate hot-dip galvanised steel, powder-coated steel, stainless steel, aluminium, Robinia wood, polyethylene (PE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), polyamide (PA), polyurethane (PUR), high-pressure laminate (HPL) and reinforced ropes. Material selection is determined by the structural function, type of activity, visual concept and technical requirements of the specific product.
Selected KOMPAN components also incorporate post-consumer recycled materials. For example, certain CircularHDPE panels contain more than 95% recycled post-consumer material, while selected rope yarns contain more than 95% post-consumer material. Separately, Govaplast manufactures solid playground components from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR), principally high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP). Govaplast recycled plastic contains no wood fibres and is therefore distinct from wood-plastic composite (WPC).

Selected KOMPAN playground products are certified according to EN 1176, with technical documentation defining dimensions, maximum fall height, required fall-space area and anchoring options for each reference. These values should be reviewed during the design stage rather than after the equipment positions have already been fixed.
The required impact-attenuating surfacing must also correspond to the equipment and its critical fall height. Malta Design can coordinate playground equipment with appropriate surfacing, foundations, finished levels and adjacent paving, helping the designer establish a coherent relationship between play zones, circulation and surrounding landscaping.
Outdoor Fitness and EN 16630
Permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment is governed by a different technical framework from children’s play equipment. Relevant KOMPAN fitness products are compliant with or certified according to EN 16630, with individual documentation covering user groups, safety areas, fall heights, anchoring and exercise functions. This distinction is particularly important in multigenerational public parks where playground and fitness zones may be located close to one another.
