SPRINGERS

Premium Playground Springers in Malta

Malta Design supplies premium playground springers in Malta for public parks, schools, nurseries, residential developments, hotels, resorts and community recreation areas. Our collection includes individual spring riders, two-seat springers, multi-user rocking equipment, animal-themed designs, imaginative vehicles, inclusive models and nature-inspired playground springers. With products developed for different ages, capacities and styles of play, springers can become an engaging standalone feature or form part of a complete playground containing swings, slides, climbing structures, play systems and other freestanding equipment. Malta Design

Springers introduce responsive movement into the playground. Children create the rocking action themselves by shifting their body weight, pushing with their feet or coordinating their movements with other users. This immediate relationship between action and response helps make the equipment intuitive and engaging, particularly for younger children. Depending on the product, springers can encourage balance, spatial awareness, coordination, body control, imaginative play and social interaction while adding movement and visual character to the wider recreational space.

Individual, Double and Multi-User Springers

The Malta Design collection includes a wide variety of springer configurations. Individual models such as animal, scooter, horse, dolphin and vehicle-inspired designs allow one child to control the rocking movement independently. Double springers provide two seating positions and encourage users to coordinate their movements, while larger products such as Crazy Daisy allow several children to participate together. The range also includes spring-based seesaw concepts and platforms that create a different type of shared rocking experience.

This variety allows a playground to incorporate several levels of social interaction. A single spring rider can support independent exploration and imaginative role play, while a two-seat or multi-user design encourages cooperation, communication and awareness of other users. Different configurations can therefore be combined within the same playground to create a more varied play environment for toddlers, preschool children and older users according to the manufacturer’s specified age range.

Spring Steel and Technical Rocking Mechanisms

The spring mechanism is central to the performance of this type of playground equipment. KOMPAN specifies high-quality spring steel manufactured according to EN 10270 for selected springers. The steel springs are cleaned through a phosphating process before receiving an epoxy primer and a polyester powder-coated top finish. Selected spring assemblies also incorporate anti-pinch fittings designed around the movement of the equipment and a polyurethane (PUR) insert that helps stabilise the spring.

These technical components are combined with the seat, body, handles and foot supports to create the complete rocking system. The exact spring construction, anchoring arrangement and product geometry vary according to the individual model. Malta Design therefore works from the technical information supplied for the selected reference rather than applying one specification to every springer in the category.

CircularHDPE and Recycled Material Options

Many contemporary KOMPAN springers use panels manufactured from CircularHDPE. Selected 19 mm CircularHDPE panels contain more than 95% recycled post-consumer material recovered from sources such as food-packaging waste and are recyclable after use. This material can be formed into colourful animal silhouettes, side panels and themed bodies, allowing designers to introduce strong visual identities while retaining the technical properties specified for the playground product.

Depending on the model, CircularHDPE components can be combined with high-pressure laminate (HPL), metal springs, nylon handles and other engineered materials. KOMPAN also provides product-specific sustainability information for selected equipment, including recycled-material percentages and verified carbon-dioxide-equivalent data. Malta Design considers this information alongside play value, maintenance, product configuration, installation and the wider objectives of the playground project.

Handles, Platforms and Specialist Components

A springer is made up of several different components, each selected for a particular function. KOMPAN uses high-quality polyamide 6 (PA6) for handles on selected models, while high-pressure laminate (HPL) can be used for platforms and structural play surfaces. Polyurethane (PUR) is incorporated into selected spring systems and can also be used for moulded handholds or footsteps on nature-play products.

Selected wooden springers also incorporate stainless-steel handles and footrests, together with rubberised membranes reinforced with woven polyester. These components introduce different textures and tactile experiences into the product while responding to their specific structural or functional roles. Malta Design verifies the construction of the individual model before specification, as not every springer uses the same combination of plastics, metals, timber, rubber or composite components.

Natural Wood Springers for Landscape Playgrounds

For projects seeking a more natural visual language, Malta Design also offers springers with wooden bodies. KOMPAN’s current nature-play springers include products manufactured from oak sourced from sustainable European sources. The manufacturer states that Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified material can be supplied on request for these selected products. Natural wood gives animal-inspired springers such as the Dolphin and Forest Ant a tactile, three-dimensional character suitable for landscaped parks and nature-oriented playground concepts.

These models may combine the wooden body with stainless-steel handholds, polyurethane (PUR) contact surfaces, rubberised elements and the same engineered spring-steel mechanism used to create the rocking motion. Coloured wooden components can also receive water-based finishes with ultraviolet resistance where specified by the manufacturer. Wood, CircularHDPE, steel and the other materials within the range are treated as different design and technical possibilities rather than being ranked against one another.

Inclusive and Social Play Opportunities

Several springers in the Malta Design range are identified by KOMPAN as inclusive products. Inclusive playground design involves considering how different users can approach, understand and participate in play. Stable handholds, clearly defined foot supports, supportive body forms and shared rocking configurations can all influence the accessibility and usability of an individual product. The appropriate equipment must nevertheless always be selected according to the specific user group and technical information supplied by the manufacturer.

Multi-user springers add another dimension by encouraging children to coordinate their actions. Products designed for two, three or four users require participants to respond to one another as the equipment moves. This can support turn-taking, cooperation and shared play while adding a dynamic social focal point to the playground. A balanced scheme can combine independent spring riders with shared equipment to provide different forms of participation within the same recreational environment.

Themes, Colours and Imaginative Playground Design

Springers can also make an important visual contribution to a playground. The Malta Design collection includes horses, dolphins, insects, birds, scooters, vehicles and other recognisable forms capable of supporting imaginative scenarios. A child can interpret the same movement as riding an animal, driving a vehicle or travelling through an imaginary landscape, adding cognitive and creative possibilities to the physical rocking activity.

Different colour options can be coordinated with the wider playground design, safety surfacing, surrounding furniture and landscape. Nature-oriented wooden products can establish a more organic character, while brightly coloured panel-based equipment can create stronger visual accents. Malta Design can coordinate these choices within the overall playground concept so that springers, swings, slides and larger play systems form a coherent composition rather than appearing as unrelated elements.

Safety Areas, Surfacing and Installation

Every springer must be coordinated with its required safety area and installation conditions. The equipment’s dimensions, movement, maximum fall height, anchoring system and surrounding circulation influence the final layout. Selected KOMPAN products are supplied with technical documentation covering fall space, safety-surfacing area, footing depth, anchoring options and installation information, while relevant models also carry playground certification in accordance with EN 1176.

Malta Design can coordinate the springer with suitable playground surfacing, foundations and nearby equipment. Our support can include layout planning, technical specifications, procurement, delivery, civil works where required, anchoring and professional installation. Correct spacing is particularly important when several springers or other moving pieces of equipment are located within the same playground.

Springer Projects in Malta

Malta Design has supplied spring-based playground equipment as part of completed public-space projects across the Maltese Islands. At Ġnien Ineż Soler for Santa Luċija Local Council, the playground delivered in 2026 included a spring rocker together with a swing and slide.
