SLIDES

Premium Playground Slides in Malta

Malta Design supplies premium playground slides in Malta for public parks, schools, nurseries, residential developments, hotels, resorts and community recreation areas. Our extensive collection includes freestanding slides, embankment slides, wide and extra-wide slides, integrated slides within play towers, tunnel slides, curved slides, stainless-steel slides, polyethylene slides and nature-play configurations incorporating Robinia wood. With solutions developed for different age groups, playground dimensions and play experiences, slides can be specified as individual attractions or integrated into larger playground systems containing climbing, balancing, sensory and social-play activities. Malta Design

Sliding is a simple activity with a strong play value. Children climb to an elevated point, prepare for the descent and experience changes in speed, body position and spatial orientation as they return to ground level. This repeated climb-and-slide sequence can encourage active movement and creates a natural circulation loop within the playground. KOMPAN identifies balance, spatial awareness and core-muscle engagement among the physical benefits associated with sliding, while waiting at the top of a slide can also create opportunities for turn-taking and social interaction.

Freestanding, Embankment and Integrated Slide Designs

The Malta Design category contains a particularly broad selection of slide configurations. Freestanding slides combine the climbing access and descent within one independent piece of equipment, making them suitable for playgrounds where a clear individual activity is required. Integrated slides form part of larger towers, castles, themed structures, rope-play systems and multi-activity playgrounds, allowing the descent to become one stage within a longer sequence of climbing and exploration.

Embankment slides use the natural or constructed topography of a site. Rather than relying on a conventional elevated tower, the slide follows the slope of a hill or landscaped mound. KOMPAN offers embankment slides in several heights, lengths and widths, including wide configurations that allow more than one user to slide alongside another. These products can be particularly relevant to landscape-led playgrounds where terrain itself forms part of the play experience. The slope, access route, surrounding surface and drainage must all be coordinated as part of the design.

Stainless-Steel Playground Slides

Stainless steel is used extensively within selected professional playground-slide ranges. KOMPAN specifies high-quality AISI 304 stainless steel for the one-piece sliding beds of several freestanding and nature-play products. On its embankment slides, stainless-steel components are glass-blasted after manufacture to create the specified smooth sliding surface. Stainless steel can be used for straight, wide and other slide configurations according to the individual product.

The supporting structure may use a different metal from the sliding surface. Selected KOMPAN freestanding slides combine an AISI 304 stainless-steel chute with hot-dip galvanised steel structural components. The manufacturer specifies that relevant steel parts are galvanised internally and externally using lead-free zinc. Malta Design verifies the precise construction of the chosen model because slide surface, access ladder, supporting frame, panels and fixings can each use different materials according to their technical function.

Polyethylene and CircularHDPE Components

The range also includes slides and playground components manufactured from polyethylene (PE). KOMPAN offers moulded polyethylene slide configurations in a selection of colours, providing different opportunities for themed and contemporary playground designs. On selected nature-play systems, the manufacturer specifies moulded polyethylene (PE) slides containing post-consumer material as an available configuration alongside stainless-steel options.

CircularHDPE is used for selected slide interface panels, side panels and surrounding playground elements. KOMPAN specifies 19 mm CircularHDPE made with more than 95% recycled post-consumer material from sources including food-packaging waste, with the material recyclable after use. These panels can introduce colour, graphics and defined side protection around the slide entrance while forming part of the wider design language of the playground. Polyethylene (PE), CircularHDPE and stainless steel are treated as different technical and aesthetic options, each selected according to the individual product and project requirements.

Robinia Wood and Nature-Play Slides

For playgrounds designed around a natural landscape character, Malta Design offers slide configurations integrated into Robinia play systems. KOMPAN confirms that its Organic Robinia products are manufactured from Robinia wood sourced from sustainable European sources, with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification available on request. Depending on the product, the wood can be supplied untreated or with a transparent brown pigment that maintains the visible character of the material.

Robinia towers can be combined with stainless-steel slides, polyethylene slides, climbing nets, bridges and other nature-play activities. Selected structures also incorporate ultraviolet-stabilised polyester (PES) ropes with internal steel-cable reinforcement, with the polyester yarn containing more than 95% post-consumer material on specified products. The combination of wood, rope, metal and engineered polymers allows nature-play systems to provide varied tactile and visual experiences while each material fulfils its own function within the structure.

Wide, Tunnel and Inclusive Slide Experiences

Different slide geometries create different forms of play. Wide and extra-wide embankment slides can allow children to descend alongside friends and, on selected configurations, provide sufficient width for a caregiver to participate. Tunnel slides introduce an enclosed descent and can be incorporated into larger elevated structures, while curved and open slides provide other movement patterns according to the design.

The Malta Design portfolio also contains playground systems developed around inclusive access. Selected products incorporate accessible ramps, wide stairs, transfer possibilities or ground-level activities alongside elevated slide experiences. One current inclusive structure in the range, for example, combines an accessible ramp with a polyethylene tunnel slide and a wavy slide manufactured with a stainless-steel surface and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) side panels. Inclusive playground design should nevertheless always be considered across the complete site, including circulation, surfacing, access routes and the combination of activities rather than through one item alone.

Play Value, Movement and Playground Circulation

A slide influences more than the descent itself. The route used to reach the slide can incorporate stairs, ladders, nets, climbing walls, ropes or landscaped slopes, creating a repeated sequence of physical activities. Children may climb, wait, slide and immediately return to the access point, producing an active loop that helps animate the playground and encourages continued participation.

The location of the slide within the playground therefore deserves careful consideration. Designers should consider how children approach the equipment, where they leave the landing area, how they return to the starting point and whether the route crosses other moving activities. Malta Design can coordinate the slide with climbing structures, swings, springers, seesaws and other equipment so that circulation remains understandable and the different forms of play work together as part of a coherent layout.

Safety Surfacing, Fall Areas and EN 1176

Professional playground slides require product-specific planning around fall height, landing areas, safety surfacing and installation. KOMPAN provides technical documentation for its slide products including maximum fall height, fall-space dimensions, safety-surfacing area and anchoring options. Selected models are certified according to EN 1176. These values vary according to the height, width, access system and overall geometry of the individual product and should therefore be reviewed before the playground layout is finalised.

The required surfacing can also influence excavation depths, finished levels and the transition between the playground and surrounding paths or landscaping. Embankment slides require additional coordination with the construction of the hill or slope, while freestanding slides may be available with surface or in-ground anchoring according to the product. Malta Design can coordinate equipment foundations, safety areas, surfacing and finished levels with the project team before installation.

Slide and Playground Projects in Malta

Malta Design has delivered playground projects incorporating slides across the Maltese Islands. At Ġnien Ineż Soler for Santa Luċija Local Council, the playground completed in 2026 included a slide together with a swing, spring rocker and other playground equipment. Malta Design has also delivered playground equipment at Ġnien l-Ewropa, Pretty Bay Playing Field and St George’s Park in Birżebbuġa, as well as the Marsaskala Children’s Playground. Malta Design

A Malta Design playground project in Birżebbuġa has been specifically documented with climbing structures, slides and swings as part of a colourful community play environment. These projects form part of a portfolio of more than forty public-space developments delivered across the Maltese Islands, covering playgrounds, sports circuits, urban furniture and other recreational environments.
